The Water and Sanitation Stakeholders Forum at the United Nations, an initiative of the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency for Water and Sanitation in Africa with the United Nations is a platform that brings together various stakeholders and philanthropies to discuss and address water and sanitation issues to applicable solutions. They play a crucial role in supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The Water and Sanitation Stakeholders Forum plays a vital role in mobilizing collective action and promoting cooperation among various stakeholders to achieve SDG 6 and ensure the sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Objective: The forum aims to promote awareness of critical water issues, build political commitment, and trigger action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and sanitation.
Key Focus: Water for Health: Access to safe drinking water, hygiene, and sanitation (SDG 6.1, 6.2, 6.3) Water for Development: Valuing water, water-energy-food nexus, and sustainable economic and urban development (SDG 6.3, 6.4, 6.5)
Water for Climate, Resilience, and Environment: Source-to-sea, biodiversity, climate, resilience, and disaster risk reduction (SDGs 6.5, 6.6, 7, 11.5, 13, 14, 15) Water for Cooperation: Transboundary and international water cooperation, cross-sectoral cooperation, and water across the 2030 Agenda (SDG 6.5, 6.b, 16, 17)

Accelerating SDG 6 Implementation: The forum brings together various stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the private sector, and philanthropies, to accelerate progress toward SDG 6.
Global Online Stakeholder Consultation: The forum conducts global online stakeholder consultations to gather input from a wide range of stakeholders on themes for interactive dialogues at the UN Water Conference.
Identifying Challenges and Opportunities: The forum helps identify possible challenges and obstacles, as well as opportunities and innovative ways to support SDG 6 implementation and accelerate progress.
Exchanging Views and Developing Actions: The forum provides a platform for stakeholders to exchange views and develop actions and initiatives needed for accelerating progress toward SDG 6.
Supporting Collective Action: The forum supports further concrete action and initiatives to enhance means of implementation, partnerships, and cooperation at all relevant levels.
Mainstreaming Gender Perspective: The forum contributes to mainstreaming a gender perspective in ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation for all.
Voluntary Commitments: The forum encourages stakeholders to provide financial support and philanthropic resources, as well as voluntary commitments toward contributing to the objectives of the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency for Water and Sanitation in Africa and the United Nations to the work of the United Nations.
Meeting: The forum will meet twice a year, either in person or virtually, to discuss the progress of their committed resources and the work of the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency for Water and Sanitation in Africa and the United Nations to the work of the United Nations
Other Functions: The forum will have opportunities to attend United Nations international meetings and conferences on water and sanitation in contribution to the advancement of the work of the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency for Water and Sanitation in Africa and the United Nations to the work of the United Nations.
